Woodworking for Women and Gender-Diverse

get together, create a take-home project, learn useful skills
Make a seed raising tray for your spring garden.
Woodworking and other practical activities can often be challenging spaces for women and gender-diverse people to be in, given they are heavily dominated by those who identify as men and the deep-seated myth that others don’t belong there. We challenge this myth and see that the culture it creates is damaging for everyone.
This event is intended to provide a comfortable space for those who identify as women or gender-diverse who have an interest in woodworking, to get together, create a take-home project if they wish, and learn some useful skills to help with future projects.

The session will cover:

  • Getting to know each other and discussing our shared passion!
  • Health & Safety Briefing
  • Instruction on how to make your own seed raising tray including planning, measuring, material selection and tools
  • Step by step use of hand tools and power tools including combination square, handsaw, drill and hammer
  • opportunity to personalise your box and learn some new techniques
For health & safety reasons, all participants must wear covered shoes, non-flowing clothing (tight-ish fit), no loose jewellery and have long hair tied back.
Bring earmuffs if you have them.
Cost: three timecredits plus $15 towards materials
We don't want cost to be a barrier to you attending. If this is the case for you, just let us know and we'll see what we can do.
